Saturday on Gulang Yu.

So yesterday we took a trip over the Gulang Yu, which is a small island that is just between Xiamen and mainland China. Tina's been here several times before, and really likes going over to go shopping, as she has called it a bit of a shoppers paradise within a shopping culture.
Sunlight Rock
Being a weekend their were quite a bit of crowds, so we never actually paid to wander up to the top of sunlight rock or any other of the main attractions. We walked around to the back side of the islands, to an area that Tina hadn't made it to in her many trips over, and enjoyed walking the beaches and just wandering streets and parks that we not filled with people.
We did do some shopping, but most of the day was spent looking at all of the old mansions that are throughout the island and being amazed at their varying amount of deterioration. This place must have been absolutely amazing back in it's day, the huge places and high vaulted ceilings take one back to an era of excess and wonder. We will look into the stories a little and let you know more of the islands history and also add some of the pictures of the crumbling buildings.
We stayed on the island, walking the hills and narrow streets, until the evening and we treated to some absolutely wonderful views on the sunset...
